Installing NoWeeds Exhaust Diverters Part 3 |
Fine Tuning
I used Ultra Copper high temperature gasket maker on the entire exhaust system, including the diverters. |
The exhaust diverters came with a couple aluminum spacer plate "gaskets". A bead of high-temp RTV was placed on both sides of the aluminum gasket before installing. |
| This is how they look when they are bolted in place. The wires hadn’t been hooked up and were hanging down in this photo. |
I formed a decorative bulkhead from 1/8-inch aluminum and a couple rubber grommets to use where the wires enter the body. The bolt in the center holds it in place and it gave the install a more polished and professional look. The wires enter just ahead of the raised area in the trunk floor. |

Doug Koenig came by on several occasions to help get the car ready for the Hot Rod and Restoration show in Indy. He was a polishing fool! (I mean that in the best way ;) Thanks Doug!
I have a lot of fun with the diverters. The unit is controlled by one of the momentary switches under the dash and I can open the diverters to any position, thereby "tuning" the sound to exactly what I want at the moment. All the way open sounds great outside the car but is quite resonant inside. My youngest daughter rode with me through the fairgrounds at the Back to the 50's this year, and had me tune the sound to her liking. She must have done alright, because we had a lot of comments on how great it sounded after we parked and shut her down.
