Picking Up the Seats Part 5 |
If you need me, I’ll be in the car :)

In the furthest back position; I can reach the pedals fine and the wheel in a "European Racing" straight-arm fashion. I probably won't have the seat back this far unless I'm sleeping in the car while waiting for Lisa to finish shopping.
The seat backs are the perfect height for this type of car. High back buckets with a headrest would cover the back window, leaving only a small area between the seats unobstructed and would look out of place. You may disagree, this is just my opinion. If I were racing I'd probably go with a high back seat with headrest but this will be more of a "pro touring" coupe.

The furthest forward position is quite comfortable. I'm just over 6-feet tall so I'm never going to be able to sell the car to anyone under 5-foot 10-inches tall – or let them drive it. Guess that rules out my wife and kids – darn ;)
The seats are sitting directly on the floor in these photos and the seat back is reclined a bit. As you can see, my head is really close to the roof (about 2- 1/2-inches) so I'll have to make sure the headliner is a close fit and recess the seat slide tracks with custom mounts to make sure I don't end up with a permanent crook in my neck.
The Outlaw body is only chopped 3- 5/8-inches. This makes me wonder how people sat in the original cars. The original seats were way off the floor and they sat straight up – usually with a hat! Were people that much shorter back then? Am I a giant?
Anyway, with the help of my daughter (who had some really good suggestions!), we sat in the car long enough to figure out where to place all of the switches and where to position the armrests and shifter. I'll start making custom drops for the seat tracks this week and get them mounted so I can setup the shifter. Then the seats will be taken into the house (where they'll be safe) and we'll start wiring.
A BIG Thank You goes out to Tea's Design for making the excellent seats! These seats are really going to make the interior. I can't wait to get started – it's going to ROCK!
Here they are again. If you need me, I'll be out in the car :)
