24-Aug-03 Picking Up the Seats Part 2

Touring Tea’s

Image
When we arrived Tom was in his office taking care of business. The walls of his office are like a street rod hall of fame. Their seats have been used by many well-known builders and have been shown in more magazines than his office walls can hold -so many in fact, that he has stacks and stacks of laminated articles everywhere!

His collection also includes every model car featuring his seats. He even has an autographed Posie's Extremeliner scale replica. Tom handed me a 1/24th scale Tea's Design seat from one of the models and said "See it's our seat, isn't that cool" :)
ImageWhile I'm name-dropping, I snapped this photo while I was walking through the shop.

I didn't spend a lot of time talking to Tom when we first arrived – I had to see our seats! We headed back out to the shop and found Charlie doing the final assembly. I wanted to show you how they are built in full detail but it's top secret! Really, I'm not kidding – they'd rather not show the competition how it's done so I'll respect their wishes and show you what I can.
ImageThey make their own frames from scratch in a separate steel fabrication shop on the grounds. Here we see the chop-saw and some tubing waiting to become a seat frame.
