24-Aug-03 Picking Up the Seats Part 1

Road Trip to Tea’s Design!

When it came to seats for Project33 there was only one choice – Tea's Design. We had Tea's seats in our last car and LOVED them! Tea's seats aren't just cool looking, they're also incredibly comfortable and that's the most important issue as far as I'm concerned. I try not to talk about my health issues for fear of sounding my age, but I have two herniated discs in my lower back that give me problems if I sit in seats with an inferior lumbar support for too long. My wife's Grand Am seats cause excruciating pain if I travel much over an hour in them and airline seats – well... I can't put it into words, but I could travel coast to coast in a Tea's seat and dance a boogie when I got there!

My youngest daughter and I made the journey to Rochester, MN to pick them up and here they are mere minutes after we arrived back home with them. We didn't even unpack the car or go into the house before we placed the seats in the car and sat down in them - oh yeah! :)

Part of the reason for picking them up myself was to visit with Tom and Charlie Ashton. I've known Tom for about eleven years. Charlie was just a little squirt back then but he's all grown up now and plays an important part in the continuing success of Tea's Design. They're a couple of great guys and it was tough to break away from talking cars and head back home. My ulterior reason for going there in person was to give you a tour of their facility – so here you go.

This is what a lot of people think of when they hear the name Tea's Design. They travel to most major street rod events throughout the nation every year with this rig.
ImageMost Rochester, MN residents are probably unaware that one of the Nation's leading suppliers of aftermarket seats for street rods, customs, trucks and motorcycles sits right in their own backyard. Tea's also performs their magic on complete interiors from time to time. When I picked up the seats for our last car, Troy Trepanier's award winning "Rumbler" Rambler wagon was just leaving their shop and had the same creamy smooth vanilla leather as our car.
