Here’s how I plan to anchor the door panels to the door:
The doors on this car are concave on the inside so the center of the door is the lowest point and I plan to take advantage of it. It’s concave from top to bottom as well as front to back.
Figure 1933 above illustrates how pressure in the center will draw the edges in tight.
Because we’re not pulling on the panel to close the door or rest our arm and it is held tight in the center by the armrest (and with two screws inside each map pocket) the edges should suck up tight against the door.
A 3/4-inch strip of Velcro will be placed about one inch inward from the edge of the door so the outside edge of the panel will remain tight without exposing the Velcro.
The door panels can be removed by unscrewing two Philips head screws inside each map pocket and removing the inside door and lock handles. No clips, hooks, plastic trees, etc. and no risk of damage to the panel when it’s removed or installed.
I’ll cover upholstering and installing the panels next.
